IKONO CHAIRMAN PROMISES FAMILY DISPLACED BY RAINSTORM NEW HOUSE
Moved by the plight of a family of six in Osuk Ediene Village in Ikono Local Government Area recently rendered homeless by the March 11, 2024 ill-fated wind disaster, the Transition Committee Chairman of the area, Hon. Kingsley Akpan has promised the displaced family a new house.
The Chairman made the commitment Thursday, when he paid an unscheduled visit to the family of Mr. Clement Effiong Akpanetuk at the scene of the rainstorm disaster in Osuk Ediene Village.
“When I saw the video clips and pictures of the disaster posted on the social media by Mr. Gee, I was moved and I decided to come see things for myself.
“I sympathise with you for the ordeal this has put you through but I'm most grateful to God that no life was lost.
“As the Council Chairman, I'll take up building a new house for you to have a place to lay your head as soon as possible.
“By tomorrow, I'll send the Works Unit to come and assess the site and come up with a building design for work to commence immediately”, Hon. Kingsley Akpan assured.
Narrating how the disaster struck, Mrs. Clement Effiong Akpanetuk said the incident occurred in the evening of the said date while she was with the two of her kids at the kitchen behind the building (a makeshift hut) trying to fix dinner after returning from farm when the windstorm started.
She said soon afterword, the winds intensified and blew off the roof of their house before bringing down the entire building to the ground within seconds leaving her panicky over the safety of her last child who was not with her at the material time.
Also speaking, Mr. Clement Effiong Akpanetuk, who lamented that the disaster has cost them all their belongings, however thanked God for sparing the lives of all members of his family.
He also commended the Chairman Hon. Kingsley Akpan and the Secretary, Hon. Udeme Obot for their concern and empathy and prayed God's blessings upon them.
Also speaking, Hon. George Okon popularly known as Mr. Gee, an erstwhile Councillor in the area who shared pictures and video clips of the disaster on the social media, commended Hon. Kingsley Akpan for being a compassionate leader and prayed God to honour him as he as chosen to honour the downcast.
