IYM: THE UNIFYING YOUTH ORGANIZATION IN IKONO LGA, AKWA IBOM STATE.

The foremost non-political youth movement in Ikono LGA called IKONO YOUTH MOVEMENT (IYM) is a non-political movement registered with the ministry of Youth Development and Sports in Akwa Ibom State with the registration number: AKS/YDS/144

Her desire as a body is to collaborate with relevant Youths Agencies to look into the Sustainable Growth of Ikono Youths

In recognition of the need to constitute the youths of Ikono origin into a truly autonomous, progressive and democratic organization in other to assert their rights and discharge their responsibilities as informed members of the Society.

And realising the unique role the youths have to play in the technological, cultural, economical, educational, infrastructural, and social development of Ikono LGA in particular and Akwa Ibom State in general and their sincere contributions to the unity, progress, dignity and greatness of the state  and the human race.

While appreciating the common challenges of our time and their role in the maintenance of fair, open and democratic system that will guarantee egalitarianism in the society, the movement is committed to the pursuance, with all her strength, the growth of intelligent citizenship and compliance with the laws establishing IKONO YOUTH MOVEMENT (IYM).

The Movement's mission is to provide a conducive platform and to build human capacity through inspiration series where Ikono Youths will interact and network to compete effectively with their counterparts both in Nigeria and in the diaspora in terms of intellectual competence and zeal to add value to our world.

It is the vision of the movement to be the foremost youth brand non-political organization in Ikono for the pursuit of excellence through empowerment, inspiration and services.

She has her international headquarters at No. 6 Arch. Bishop Ottong Road Ikot Akpa Edok, Ndiya, Ikono LGA Akwa Ibom State, with liaison offices in various states in Nigeria and in diaspora.

 The following are the aims and objectives of the movement.

• To promote Ikono rich cultural heritage.
• To provide a platform for inspiring young minds to become good role models of Ikono LGA of Akwa Ibom state and Nigeria at large.
• To promote Human Capacity Development.
• To promote Good Governance.
• To promote Unity, Love, Peace and Progress in Ikono LGA.
• To develop and promote ideas and/or organize programmes and/or engage in activities that will enhance adequate development of Ikono Youths either solely or in collaboration with Government Agencies, Non-governmental Organisations, community based organisations, international and/or foreign agencies.
• To sensitize and organise Ikono Youths into groups for development and empowerment programmes.
• To develop and promote  talents among the Ikono Youths.
• To organise local, national, international learned conferences, seminars, workshops and awards focusing on the Youths capacity building, and empowerment initiatives for full integration into decision making in their communities.
• To organise and sponsor local, national and international competitions, shows, exhibitions, holidays and exchange programmes for Ikono Youths.
• To organise training for Ikono Youths on: exploration of rural resources, skill acquisition programmes, improved farm practices, poverty alleviation techniques, life enhancement and sex education, HIV/AIDS prevention and income generating/entrepreneurial activities, information and communication    management technologies etc.
• To conduct periodic documentation and keeping socio-economic data of  rural Youths situation in Ikono  LGA.
• To produce, source and circulate printed and Non-printed materials related to the Youths for the Purpose of education and training.

Membership of the movement is opened to all respectable and responsible youths of Ikono LGA from the age of 18 and above irrespective of sex, religion, Socio-political and cultural background who are resident in Nigeria and in the Diaspora on indication of interest to become a member.

An intending member Shall obtained his/her membership form from the chapter chairman or secretary at the cost of NGN 1200 (One thousand two Hundred Naira Only).

N/B: This amount covers both registration and for identity card and is subject to amendment. More so, every members should note that the registration fee is none refundable and the duration for the identity card shall be two years (2yrs). A member is entitled to a renewed identity card from IYM if only the member is able to present the expired card. However, if the member is unable to present the expired card,  he/she shall pay for the renewal the sum of NGN500.00 (Five Hundred Naira only). In the case whereby a member loses his/her membership identity card, he/she shall report it immediately to the chapter chairman, secretary and also to the nearest police station and obtain police report and the chapter chairman shall come to the international Headquarter during IYM NEC meeting with the police report for an approval for such reproduction at the member's cost. However, membership yearly renewal of names shall be NGN500. 00 (Five Hundred Naira only), Monthly dues NGN200.00(Two Hundred Naira only) Roll call per sitting NGN100.00(One Hundred Naira only)  and is subject to amendment.

The completed form duly signed by the holder shall be  return to the chapter secretary with 2 passports, the completed form signed by the chapter chairman and the secretary shall be forwarded to the IYM International Headquarter for final signing by the International President and the secretary and for proper documentation.

All membership forms shall be issued to chapters from the International Headquarter, no chapter is permitted to print or duplicate membership form.

A member may resign his/her membership and such resignation shall be effective immediately after the International Secretary receives notice of such resignation and acknowledge it then necessary actions shall be taken by the Ikono Youth Movement (IYM) National Executive  Committee (NEC), in this the member shall return his/her membership Identity card as it is the property of IYM and other valuables in his/her possession belonging to IYM to the chapter chairman or the Secretary.

The Movement shall have the right to take disciplinary actions against any erring member(s) after due process.

Membership induction ceremony shall be conducted after every 6 months at the movement's international headquarters, that is during the movement's yearly anniversary celebration on June and December during end of the year get together celebration.
