Friday, 18th April 2025 will forever remain unforgettable as the quiet riverine town of Abalama in Rivers State experienced a turnaround. The atmosphere was charged with joy, faith, and something truly divine as the gospel messages from men of God emanating from the Comprehensive Secondary School Abalama field - centre for the Assemblies of God, Northern Rivers District National Easter Retreat - touched hearts and lives in a remarkable way. The gathering was not just a celebration—but a transformation.
People of all ages gathered in anticipation. The environment was buzzed with excitement, and the retreat ground turned into a sanctuary under the open skies such that one could feel the hunger—for hope, for truth, for something real.
The worship was soul-stirring. Choirs and musicians led the crowd in songs that echoed through the community, lifting spirits and softening hearts. It wasn’t just music—it was a message in melody, preparing the ground for what was to come.
Then came the word—a clear, passionate, and piercing gospel messages on selected topics that cut through noise and tradition. They spoke of love, redemption, purpose and increase. One could literally see dedication to the Supreme Being, repentance and acceptance in the faces of the congregants as their eyes welled up, hands lifted high and hearts laid bare.
Even after the service ended for the day, congregants were not in a rush to leave. Conversations sparked, prayers continued, and there was a quiet sense of something new beginning. Hope was rekindled, and faith was awakened.
Abalama Community didn’t just experience a celebration of "Good Friday" as usual —it encountered the gospel in a living, breathing way and the congregants walked away reminded of how powerful, relevant, and life-giving the message of Christ still is today.
