HON. ITORO COLUMBA: THE EXEMPLAR OF A RIGHTEOUS IN AUTHORITY
HON. ITORO COLUMBA: THE EXEMPLAR OF A
RIGHTEOUS IN AUTHORITY
_When the righteous are in authority, the
people rejoice … (Prov. 29:2a)
The
award winning chairman of Ikono LGA, Hon. Itoro Columba, in keeping with his
campaign promise, had in the last two years dealt righteously with the people of
Ikono irrespective of party affiliation and walks of life. This is evident in
the life-touching empowerment programmes he had been and still organizing for
the betterment of all his people.
Testimonies
abound from different political and non-political youth groups, elders Forum, traditional
institutions, party stalwarts, women groups and most importantly the past Ikono
LGC Chairmen/Chairlady in their separate
speeches and at different fora attesting to the unprecedented feats recorded by
the Hon. Itoro Columba led Ikono Local Government Area. In one of the usual
gathering of all sons and daughters of Ikono LGA, a past Council Chairman
confirmed that they have all done noble things in Ikono LGA as Chairmen but
Hon. Itoro Columba had surpassed them all. (paraphrased)
These
landmark achievements recorded by our chairman translates to the overall
happiness and peace enjoyed by the people of Ntippe Ibibio nation. It was in this
same line of thought that King Solomon, the Holy Spirit-inspired writer of the
book of Proverbs chapter 29 verse 2 as translated by the Easy English version
of the scripture challenged us when he said, ‘If you show to me a good ruler, I
will show to you happy people’ - Proverbs 29:2(a). I stand tall to
affirm that King Solomon was right in his postulation as Hon. Itoro Columba’s
righteous leadership style had made and is still making Ikono indigenous people and residents truly happy.
It was Confucius, the Chinese Philosopher and Politician that
said, ‘A superior man, in dealing with the world is not for anything or
against anything. He follows righteousness as the standard”. The above
statement typifies the true son of Ntippe Ibibio, Hon. Itoro Columba as the
word ‘unjust’ is neither found in his dictionary nor ever spotted in his deeds.
It
has been said by men of old that behind every successful man, there is a woman.
Please permit me to quickly add that the successes recorded by Hon. Itoro
Columba were not just orchestrated by just a woman but by a dependable and a “Proverbs
31” woman beside him by the name Mrs. Ekaette Columba. She is a gift to
him and Ikono LGA in general and could be described as a ‘virtuous woman’
indeed.
As
my parting words, let me align myself with these words as recorded in the Bible
- tell the righteous it
will be well with them, for they will enjoy the fruit of their deeds - and
pray for the People’s Chairman, the Unwana Ikono and the righteous leader of
our LGA that it shall be well with him. He has convincingly grafted his footprints
in the stones of time and it will forever remain indelible. Remember, the reward
for good work is always more work.
Thank
you
Edet John
Ibianang-Ediene, Ikono.
