PEACEFUL CO-EXISTENCE FOR POSITIVE DEVELOPMENT: THE WAY FORWARD
PEACEFUL CO-EXISTENCE FOR POSITIVE DEVELOPMENT: THE WAY FORWARD
”There is a right time for everything that we do under the sun. A time for.....” so says the preacherman in Ecclesiastes 3:1. Of importance to us as a people are the sentences used in verses 7 and 8 of the same chapter. ”There is a time to tear something down. And there is a time to mend it. There is a time to be quiet. And there is a time to speak. There is a time to love. And there is a time to hate. There is a time to fight. And there is a time not to fight.”
It is the revelation of this word that drew my attention to all that happened to us as a people in the last few months confirming that we were perfectly in the will of God and that we acted not in err. Of a truth, the time for tearing apart came and we made good use of it; the time for hatred came, we did our best. However, those times could not have lasted forever as it gave way for the time wherein we are: The time to mend, the time to speak out and the time to love.
In politics, they say, there is no permanent friend and no permanent foe. This assertion, to the best of my knowledge is true as evidences abound before us as those we thought were irreconcilable enemies suddenly became best of friends and allies wining and dinning together.
It is in this line of thought that Ikono Youth Movement (IYM), the foremost non political youth movement in Ikono LGA and by extension Akwa Ibom State, having being silent during the entire period of voting and refusing to be dragged into partisan politics, deem it necessary and in accordance with her mandate of uniting the youths of the LGA to say, “Let the spirit of brotherhood be seen in us”.
The time for politicking has come and gone and now the act of governance has just begun. This is evidence in the just concluded swearing-in ceremonies for the elected officers at various levels of governance. Be it known to all the youths of Ikono LGA that these representatives at various levels are not to represent their parties but all. Hence, the call for a united Ikono Youths that will collectively push for the wellbeing of all while appluading and encouraging them as they perform their constitutional duties and constructively criticizing them as they err with the intention of correcting their ills.
It is only when we synergized and speak with the same voice that our voices will be heard. Remember, it was Mark Twain that said "synergy is the bonus that is achieved when things work together harmoniously” It is the benefit that results when two or more individuals work together to achieve something either one couldn't have achieved on its own; It is the concept of the whole being greater than the sum of its parts, that is what happened when one plus one equals to ten or a hundred or even a thousand.
As a Movement, we are advocating for a peaceful co-existence amongst us as this will foster the much-desired development we yearned for in our LGA., The aggrieved and injured youths must also forget the past, the hatred, the blackmails, the backstabbings and other injuries we might have inflicted on them and who they represent and press on for the mark of the high-calling before us. We also implore all our representatives (from the least to the highest) to look beyond an individual and party affiliations, be accomodating and considerate while placing premium on the larger project which is rebuilding the broken walls in Ikono for greater development.
Let me leave us with this: “When God blesses you, build a longer table and not a taller wall as the reward for good work is always more work”
Thank you

IYM! Making Leaders, Changing Lives.
ReplyDeleteTogether we will move a mountain.
As another 4 years of Government opening a new page, I pray that Ikono LGA name should be found in the list, and our political Leaders should be able to remind the State and the federal Government that we voted for them.
